Frequently Asked Questions
What is natural stone thin veneer?
Natural stone thin veneer is real stone that has been sawn to a thickness of approximately 1" to 1.5". It offers the beauty and durability of full-bed stone but is much lighter, making it easier to install on a variety of surfaces.
How is thin veneer different from full-bed stone?
Thin veneer is cut thinner and lighter, making it suitable for projects where weight or depth is a concern. It doesn’t require a ledge for support like full-bed stone does.
Can thin veneer be used for both interior and exterior projects?
Yes! It’s perfect for fireplaces, accent walls, outdoor kitchens, siding, columns, and more—both indoors and out.
Does thin veneer need a footing or foundation?
No. Because of its light weight, it doesn’t require structural support, making it ideal for remodeling and new construction.
Is it real stone or man-made?
Our thin veneer is 100% natural stone. It’s cut from full pieces of stone, so you get the authentic color, texture, and variation nature provides.
How is it installed?
Thin veneer is typically installed using a masonry adhesive or mortar over a properly prepared surface, such as cement board or masonry substrate. It can also be mechanically fastened in some applications.
How much does thin veneer weigh?
Natural stone thin veneer weighs about 10–15 pounds per square foot, compared to 35–40 pounds per square foot for full-bed stone.
Do you offer corners for a seamless look?
Yes, we offer matching corner pieces that wrap around edges to give the appearance of full-depth stone.
What surface can it be applied to?
It can be applied to many surfaces including CMU block, brick, cement board, and even drywall in interior applications (with proper prep).
How is it shipped?
Our stone is carefully packed and shipped on pallets. It’s important to have a way to unload at the delivery location.
Can I install it myself?
Thin veneer is easier to install than full-bed stone, but basic masonry skills are recommended. For best results, we recommend using a professional installer. If you need assistance in finding a stone mason, we have plenty of contacts!
How do I estimate how much I need?
Measure the square footage of the surface area you want to cover and add about 10% for cuts and waste. Corner pieces are typically measured in linear feet.
Do you offer samples?
Yes! We have sample boards available for purchase for $45, so you can see the stone in person before making a purchase. This price includes shipping, and will be credited towards your total cost when you purchase your stone.
